A paper jam is one of the most common printer issues, and it usually happens at the worst possible moment. The good news? It’s easy to understand and even easier to fix when you know what to check.
1. Misaligned Paper
If the paper stack isn’t straight, the printer grabs multiple sheets at once and gets stuck. Remove the paper, tap the stack to align it, and reload it neatly.
2. Dust or Tiny Bits of Paper Inside
Small scraps often stay inside after a jam and create new ones. Open all access doors, including the rear panel if your printer has one, and gently remove any loose pieces.
3. Incorrect Paper Type
Very thin, thick, or curled paper can cause frequent jams. Use clean, fresh sheets that match the recommended paper type for your model.
4. Overloading the Tray
Stuffing too many sheets in the tray is a quick way to trigger a jam. Keep the stack under the maximum line and make sure the guides are snug, not tight.
5. Worn Rollers
Old rollers lose grip and pull the paper unevenly. If jams happen repeatedly, the rollers might need cleaning or replacement.
